John D. Cook Consulting seems to do the manner of work that regular programmers like me only dream of doing, and their blog entries are uniformly interesting, educational and somehow esoteric. I’m amazed by them.

John D. Cook Consulting’s blog published a post Fitting a regular expression to a list of words where (apparently!) John Cook himself shows how to use a Python library to combine several strings into a regular expression that, when interpreted by a program like grep, will match all those strings.

There’s a last time for everything. My last Wordle was number 1234.

I decided I can no longer give anything, not views, not ad views, not clicks, to the pro-Trump New York Times. I am rage quitting Wordle.

Here’s my Wordle wrap up stats.

I falsely believed that I had found a wordle state where an elaborate regular expression with alternations gives fewer possible answers than a simple regexp in a pipeline with extra greps.

I was wrong.

I completed Wordle 1,056 without any mechanical or computational help. I believe I can deduce the answer from my third guess.

I thought I would try to do Wordle 1,039 exclusively with computer help.

I did not solve Wordle 1,037. I fell into the too-many-alternatives trap.

I solved Wordle™ brand video game, puzzle number 1,016 without mechanical help. I found it difficult.

I got Wordle 1,001 without mechanized help. I feel like the partial solutions would be worth double-checking with Computer Science.

I solved Wordle™ brand video game, puzzle number 986 without computerized help, but I made a silly 3rd guess. I wondered if the solution word was the only word available after my fourth guess.

I felt pretty happy getting this wordle in 4 guesses, as you can see. But how good was my 4th guess?
