Wordle Wrap Up
There’s a last time for everything. My last Wordle was number 1234.
I decided I can no longer give anything, not views, not ad views, not clicks, to the pro-Trump New York Times. I am rage quitting Wordle.
Here’s my Wordle wrap up stats.
NYT has enshittifyied Wordle ever since they bought it, reducing access to the wordlebot, and finally putting wordlebot behind their paywall.
I bear no grudge towards Josh Wardle for selling his game. One very good outcome for him was to sell it for a lot of money, and apparently he sold it for some tens of millions of dollars. I do bear ill will towards the New York Times for doing such predictably awful things to ruin it.
I have records of 947 my Wordle grids, from no. 219 (5/6), to no. 1234 (4/6). I think I started a few games earlier, but not too many.
According to my records, my longest streaks were:
- 87, 1001-1087
- 89, 778-866
- 91, 894-984
- 96, 545-640
I’m pretty sure I actually had a longer streak or two. These records are from a group chat. I suspect that I failed to paste a grid into the chat once or twice.
My guess distribution looks like this:
1 1/6
45 2/6
257 3/6
383 4/6
190 5/6
51 6/6
20 X/6
The only one-guess solution I got was for CRANE, which was my starting word for a long time. I think I used IRATE at first, and a couple of games after CRANE as a solution, I used SLATE consistently.
I’m surprised I only have records of 20 skunks. It seems like more than that.
Wordle afforded me a lot of small doses of fun.
